Does patriotism matter today? If you really think about it, every sporting event you watch, people sing the national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. When we sing those words, we wish for the best for those overseas, and also for the victims of 9/11/2001, that terrible and tragic day that was brought upon us, and killed many innocent people. So to answer my question, yes, patriotism does matter today and I think that you’d agree. “A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against the government,” was a quote by John Kennedy who was president of the United States at one point, and that was one of his quotes on patriotism. This quotation means that we need to reflect and think about what the leaders in our country tell us we should do and we need to think about how we vote. If we do this we are a true patriot. So patriotism does not mean just to wave the flag or sing the national anthem. Patriotism means to be involved in good citizenship, and believe in the ideals and laws of our country. As long as your are a good citizen, policemen, firefighter, navy, army, and air force, you are a true patriot.
